Dinner TBD
Gluten Free Country Fried Steak
Ingredients
- 8 cubed steaks
- 3 egg
- 2 cup buttermilk (whole)
- 3 cup gluten-free flour (Cup 4 Cup Wholesome Gluten Free Flour (brand Cup 4 Cup))
- 0.5 cup cracker crumbs (crumbled finely in food processor; optional gluten-free or skip)
- salt
- pepper
- 1 palmful thyme
- 1 palmful paprika
- 1 palmful garlic powder
- vegetable oil (for frying)
- gluten-free white gravy (optional)
Method
- 1
Mix eggs & buttermilk in a dredging dish.
- 2
In a separate bowl, mix the GF flour, GF cracker crumbs (if using), thyme, paprika, garlic powder, salt & pepper.
- 3
One at a time, dip all 8 pieces of cubed steak into the egg mixture, then dredge each piece in the flour mixture, set all pieces aside on a plate.
- 4
Heat a half-fingertip layer of oil in a frying pan on Medium heat to 350F. Test by adding a bit of flour to see if it bubbles first before adding the steak. Don’t let the oil smoke. If it does, turn the heat down.
- 5
Add steaks 2 at a time and fry both sides for 1-3 minutes per side until internal temp reaches 145 or 150F.
- 6
Rest on a jelly roll pan with a bacon rack to let any access oil drip off and let temp rise to 155 or 160F.
- 7
Serve with veggies, mashed potatoes, and/or fried apples, and peppered white gravy (if you can find some gluten free)
Notes
The Cup 4 Cup brand of gluten free flour worked great for me! It's a little brown when it fries, but the texture was just like good ol' country fried steak! Loved it!
