Cast Iron Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
Method
- 1
Butter & flour the cast iron skillet and set aside.
- 2
Preheat oven (or pellet smoker) to 350.
- 3
With a spatula, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, & salt in a bowl.
- 4
Boil 1 c of water in an electric kettle (or over the stove) and let cool slightly.
- 5
Mix in the oil, egg, vanilla, and then slowly pour in the water- stirring constantly as to not cook the egg with the hot water. The consistency should be smooth like cake batter.
- 6
Pour the mixture into the cast iron skillet and level.
- 7
Sprinkle on any extras you’d like; chocolate chips, walnuts, birthday sprinkles- and press into the top slightly.
- 8
If using a pellet smoker, bake for 13-15 minutes. Cake will be done when it’s not jiggly in the center.
- 9
If using an indoor oven, bake for 20-25 minutes, also will be done when center is not jiggly.
- 10
Cool for at least 30 minutes before cutting and serving with your favorite ice cream and chocolate syrup!
- 11
Store in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.
Keep cooking
